St George's crush Greater Portmore
published: Sunday | October 5, 2008

STRIKERS KURT Thomas and Kemal Malcolm scored hat-tricks to lead St George's College to a massive 9-0 whipping of Greater Portmore in ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel Manning Cup action yesterday.

Thomas scored all his goals (18th, 27th and 38th minutes) in the first half of the Winchester Park encounter, while Malcolm netted in the 30th, 36th and 52nd minutes.

Kemar Cunningham (23rd), substitute Devon Williams (83rd) and Deshawn Forbes (84th) scored the hosts' other goals.

With the win, St George's moved to 16 points from six games, ahead of Excelsior, who defeated Camperdown 4-0, on goal difference.

One-sided affair

In a one-sided affair, St George's dominated as their opponents failed to get the ball out of their half.

Greater Portmore looked a little more organised in the second half and had a few shots on goal, but nothing to trouble Jevaughn Lennon in St George's goal.

Marcell Gayle, St George's assistant coach, said the team played well but complacency took over in the second half.

"But most importantly we get maximum points and no goals scored on us, so that's also a plus," Gayle said.

Greater Portmore's coach, Larry Reid, said his team got what it deserved.

"What you put in is what you get out," Reid said.

"The team just refused to train. I walked (out of training) on Friday and came back this morning ... what they got is what they deserved," he said.
